Anyway, people say elephants remember everything, so this elephant should be right at home in the SHS Library.

I never tried to promote Teen Tech Week until this year. An article in YALSA's journal inspired me to try Teen Tech Week. We are hosting a contest in the library in which the winner gets a $50 Best Buy gift card, a flash drive, a MP3 player, earbuds, and a gift card for Napster. To go along with the week, I created a display. This picture shows our bookcase where we promote special events. Playways, music CDs, and books about technology are being displayed for the next week and a half.

Today's The Daily Shoot says to take a picture of a person or object in a fragile state. In this picture, both the person and the object exist in a fragile state. This young man excels at math, and I am trying to get him to finish an essay so he can get into a summer class. In the class, he will get to build a laptop and take it home. He wasn't able to work on his essay on this day because a class was working on the main library computers. He did volunteer to pose for this photo for me.

I lay down on my back on the floor to take this picture of a shelving unit in my library. Will this viewpoint even be available twenty years from now considering the popularity of e-readers like Nook and Kindle?

We asked for all the rectangular posts and the wall in the office painted. The library was built in 1974 and has a great deal of brown in it. Unfortunately, the atrium near the front office needed extra work, so we didn't get our office wall painted. Also, all of the posts except for the one pictured here have brown textured wallpaper on them. The contract was only for two more days (at the time they came into the library), and the workers did not have the time nor the equipment to strip the wallpaper, prep the columns, and paint. They did take care of this post. Toward the top is a thick band of blue that runs all the way around the post.

I loved the Caution Men around the column and took a picture of them.

The Bell Rang

We open the library at 7:00 so students can come in before school (which starts at 8:00) and research, type, read, check out books, or just hang out. A good sized crowd gathers every morning. Here, I have caught the last few as they walk out the door after the first bell rang. You can read more about our library on the SHS Library Blog.

Books Back from Vacation

Today was the first day back for our students after the Christmas break. We encouraged students to check out more than their usual allotment (six books per student) for the break. Our book drop stayed busy all day long on this day.
